The seven Aliyahs of Yitro
top right – Moses bows to Yitro his father-in-law who took care of his wife and sons in Midian during the time of the plagues.
top left – Yitro observed Moses who would sit all day as a judge for all the people and Yitro saw he was exhausted, and he recommended Moses choose people to help. Good to delegate responsibilities.
top center – So Moses chooses leaders who are honest, righteous, wise, fair and incorruptible. Good to find such judges. Hard too.
bottom right – Hashem tells Moses to speak to the women as they are the foundation of belief, and they will educate the new generations.
bottom left – the moment – REVELATION. The Hebrews at the foot of Mount Sinai simultaneously received the truth and wisdom of Torah and the mountain rose surrounded by smoke and fire and sound. Some sages say it transformed into the shape of a barrel, suggesting that we can be trapped in a barrel of ignorance, but the guidance of Hashem will break us through these limitations.
bottom center – Moses at the top of the mountain is given the ten commandments. As each Hebrew letter has its own power, here the first ten surround him.
center center – The Hebrews overwhelmed by the power of the revelation ask Moses to intercede and he becomes the spokesperson for the words of Hashem and constructs an altar of unhewn stones here representing the spiritual colors of the sephirot, the Jewish kabbalistic cosmological centers of being.
