Moses went to the top of Sinai and the mountain split lifting above the mass of gathered Hebrews below who were surrounding Sinai. In a state of synesthesia revelation, they saw and heard simultaneously, amidst the fiery mountain, the words of Hashem, accompanied by the blast of a shofar and lighting and the blackening clouds, as these engulfed Moses for his personal conversation with Hashem.
