Genesis 28:10-32:3
Jacob has been journeying to Haran escaping his brother Esau who has been trying to kill him. As the sun was setting Jacob made a bed on the ground, which would later become the site of the First Temple. Jacob took 12 stones for his headrest suggesting the future 12 tribes he would give birth to and these stones joined into one miraculously and as he slept he dreamed of angels ascending and descending a ladder. The angels depicted here are of all genders and ages.
