What happens when we pass on our wisdom to the next generation? Here the Zohar speaks about this parsha where Moses is passing on leadership to Joshua. Above Moses are the vibrancies of what’s called Zer Anpin, which is the 7 upper cosmic sephirot, and more importantly, Moses is equated to the sun. Joshua represents malchut ,the lower sephirot, and the moon. Now the moon will be larger than the sun as Moses dies, yet Joshua’s moon will still reflect Moses’ guidance and wisdom, just as the moon reflects the sun. Moses lived when we were blessed with manna, this food from heaven; but now we have to make our own food, which is our next evolution and responsibility starting under Joshua and through our diaspora. And all of this flows from the Zohar’s image of a supernal river giving sustenance and blessings both spiritual and physical.
