King Solomon had Hirem of Tyrle design the major elements of the Temple including the large laver and smaller ones and lamps and the two pillars that have subsequently been given the names Boaz and Joachim. Over the years they have become symbols of the pillars of Severity/Discipline on the left side and Mercy/Compassion/Kindness on the other. May we be balanced by these two guides of discipline and compassion so our lives gain meaning and value.
