Leviticus 6:1 – 8:36
One of the “mitzvahs” – the commandments – was to keep a constant fire on the altar of the “mishkan” – the Tabernacle. It was told that when the people acted righteously the flames formed into the face of a lion but when they moved away from righteous behavior the flames resembled a dog. Part of the rituals of sacrifice included waving the objects in all directions reminding us the Hashem is everywhere. One part of a sacrificial ritual included placing blood on the right ear symbolizing one should always listen to the words of Hashem.
