The seven Aliyahs of Shoftim
top right – “Justice, Justice” shall we pursue. Judges are to be fair to all and an uneven number comprises courts so there will be decision. Those who worship the false idols will be destroyed.
top left – If we are to have a king, that person must copy the Torah twice word for word so he deeply feels the ethics of truth and not be seduced by his harem or horses or gold.
top center – We are to feed our spiritual guides the kohanim.
bottom right – We are to share with the Levite who owns no property but serves us with spiritual actions. Do not follow the deceiving sorcerers who force our daughters into the fire.
bottom left – There will other prophets to be heeded when they speak the truth. And again we are told to have sanctuary cities for the innocent who may have killed accidently and at the same time one who is truly guilty of murder it not to be given sanctuary.
bottom center – There must be at least two or more witnesses to accuse someone of a crime. And if we are to wage war, some are not to be enlisted like those who are building their home, or have just married, or whose vines have just matured, or one who is afraid.
center center – And when we approach an enemy, first offer peace, and if it is rejected then destroy the citadels of cruelty; but spare the women and children and do not cut down the trees that offer food. And here too is mentioned proving responsibility for innocence if a body is found between tribes. Stand forward and tell the truth.
