Re’eh (“See, I present before you today a blessing and a curse”)

Deuteronomy 11:26 – 16:17

Here are the laws regarding sacred and contaminated animals and the stipulation that all the blood – the sign of life –  be spilled before consuming any former living creature.  On the mountain on the left – Mt. Gerizim – are the kosher animals with cloven hoof that chew their cud – even the giraffe was eatable.  On the right, the barren Mt. Ebal where are the unclean animals and birds.
