What are the priestly blessings? The Zohar speaks of the priests, when raising their hands for these famed blessings that are in this parsha Naso, should raise the right hand above the left. The Sephirot of Kabbalah cosmology tells us the right is the side of mercy. The Zohar also speaks that the priest should have the feminine in their existence, which can be a wife. The hands here have the colors, according to the sage Ari, of the four simultaneous worlds we live in shown in the palms, and all the 10 Sephirot in the separated fingers. Through their midst pass the letters of the tetragrammaton of Hashem to bless us with – first – sustenance. “May the Lord bless you and keep you.” The second – the smiles of kindness of others gained by the kindness in Torah. “May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you.” And the third – peace. “May the Lord grant us peace.” Without it, there are no blessings.
