KI TISSA

The Zohar responds to the making of the idol of the golden calf that it was forced on Aaron (here in orange the color associated with him in Kabbalah). Idol worshipping people who went along with the Hebrews who left Egypt despite experiencing the revelation at Mount Sinai they did not accept Hashem’s wonders and Oneness.   In the midday sun they readily ripped their jewelry off their ears to contribute gold that was pushed onto Aaron by their leaders who were two powerful the evil wizards related to Bilaam and Laban wearing an ox and donkey.  Had Aaron let the gold drop to the ground it would have been swallowed up, but instead, he placed in in a bag and then threw that into the fire from which would emerge the statue.  He wanted to calm the rebels but went too far giving into to their nefarious demands.
