KEDOSHIM

This parsha contains many mitzvot and most significant of all is the instruction you shall love the stranger as yourself. As the sages have commented, this is not an easy assignment.  When the master Hillel was challenged to share the essence of Judaism while he stood on one foot, Hillel rephrased this to a more tenable practice instructing:” That which is hateful to you, do not unto another.” And then he added: “That is the entire Torah, the rest is its interpretation. Go study.”  Commentators mention how this line about loving strangers reflects many of the other mitzvot including (upper right going down and around) – be honest in your dealmaking, take care of others’ property, help others, be respectful and encouraging, speaking positively of others, and celebrate in other’s happiness.
