Who is there to watch over us ? The midrash on the last plague speaks of when the Hebrews marked their doorposts and lintel with blood, that our ancestors emerged to protect and guide them. Abraham and Sarah are above the lentil – the color associated with them is blue and the spiritual essence (sefira) is “chased” – kindness. Isaac is to the left and his color is red and the sefira is “gevura” – discipline. And on the right is Jacob whose color is yellow and whose sefira is “Tiferet””- harmony. It is also said that the Egyptian dogs did not bark as they were in awe of this grave consequential night. May we too have the protection of our ancestors.
