BALAK

Take heed the warnings.  Pay attention.  In this parsha the corrupt immoral King Balak wants to destroy the Hebrew immigrants.  He calls on Bilaam, a prophet and magician, to verbally condemn the tribes in their tents below, which he wants to do but he cannot as Hashem only lets him speak words of praise alluding among other things to these people as a flowing brook of truth surrounded by abundant trees of life.  Balak himself was also a black magician and had devices like a metallic bird who once inserted in its beak with a gold needle would then do his malicious biddings.  But in this case the bird returned with its tail feathers in flames and ashes as a sign that evil will not overwhelm this people.  It’s said his faced turned green in anger and envy.  Those who want to destroy often can’t face the truth.
