BALAK

BALAK

This parsha In many ways deals with our inability to see what’s really right in front of us. Often times the truth is so clear that we in fact see past it and don’t really see it at all. Here Balaam is sent to curse the Jews by the Moab King Balak. And Bilaam who was a powerful mystic,  even though he has been told by Hashem not to do this, he couldn’t resist the personal possible material and ego rewards.  He was going to get paid well even if he said and did the wrong thing.  So, after some negotiating, he mounted his trusty  donkey and headed down a walled road to do the bidding of his corrupt leader. He couldn’t see that right in from of him blocking the path was an  angel.  So obsessed with his own gains he missed the truth. But his donkey didn’t.  The donkey saw what was there, as often animals do, being more sensitive to the dangers than we are. And in this case the animal suddenly spoke words to its master warning him of the truth, as we are being warned by the animal world today of the dangers of our own selfishness that’s leading to the destruction of the planet. Let’s see what is right in front of us and choose well the path we take.
