How to appreciate the blessings we are given? Shabbos is one way. This parsha is famed for its painful reproofs for abandoning the teachings and ethics and connection to Hashem who created us and everything. But the parsha begins with stating the blessings we receive for our gratitude and faith. It speaks of the rain – a gift that asks for no reciprocal behavior. It is free. Water itself is essential for our very survival, and from it the parsha mentions all the growth and fruitful abundance that can emerge from the earth. A sign of love. May we continually thank The Creator for these ongoing blessings.
