The Zohar comments on the line in this week’s parsha: “Take you to you.” It says that Moses who was metaphorically the sun united with, it says, the larger moon as all the aspects of the letter “vav” were addressed. Vav is the sixth letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and it translates as “hook.” It connects the spiritual with the physical. It brings everything into one, here represented by the six sephirot together known as Zer Anpin radiating from Moses. Only then would Aaron’s relatives, the Levites, both men and women, be allowed to serve as wise ministers for the people.
