The Zohar speaks of Moses as a caring shepherd who would seek out and carry a lost lamb, but on this afternoon he was moved to take the flock into a desert area and above him there appeared birds near a cave and in this cave was what we all know as the burning bush, but the Zohar emphasizes that at first there was an angel that called to him within this miracle. He left the flock and approached the cave. The Zohar also speaks of birds falling to the ground. It doesn’t explain this phenomenon but in a way it is a commentary on the freedom that these creatures have to soar., but before the Holy One, all abilities dissolve in awe of the Oneness.
