Though this parsha concentrates on conflictual brothers, the Zohar also pays attention to Isaac here re-digging wells that had been destroyed by enemies of his father. Isaac doesn’t get much attention. As his father Abraham is associated with bright light, Isaac is associated with the darker stormy perception, also necessary for survival, and were it not for Isaac we would not be here. He is the connection of the past with the future keeping the faith often represented by water. Water which keeps us alive on the physical level and as the flow of deep connections keeping us alive on spiritual levels. Torah is often compared to the flow of water. And in our history of triumphs and losses one well is associated with the fall of the first temple (the Solomon’s) and the second well has the reflection of the fall of the second temple (Herod’s) but the third well is the promise of a future spiritual enlightened temple. May we deserve this before we continue global warming and create droughts that destroy ourselves physically and spiritually.
