SHELACH

The danger of believing lies.  A problem then and a problem now. The Midrash speaks of the spies who came to discover the nature of Canaan and then lied about what they saw to scare the people from advancing into what was to be their homeland.  One of their lies was that there were giants, and one was a woman.  The spies were resting in what they thought and said was a cave but turned out, according to them, to be a giant pomegranate that then she picked up and threw aside. Why are we willing to tolerate what is clearly a deception to empower the undeserving?
