BEHA’ALOTCHA

Appreciation. Gratitude. Warning. Wonder. Themes in this weeks parsha. The Hebrews were provided food each morning on the journey toward Israel. Called manna, it dropped like dew from the sky.  It seems to have looked like coriander, but if you appreciated the miracle, it tasted like whatever you wanted; but if you were not grateful and desired something else, not only was the taste unpleasant, but your body reacted poorly with a burning in the throat and a swelling in the body. And as to warning, Moses was provided two silver trumpets that were used to awaken the people to at times serious dangers like droughts.  We could use these now since so many are deaf to the realities of Global Warming causing serious worldwide droughts.  And the wonder: the ark sometimes went ahead of the people and sparks shot out from it clearing the path of dangers.
