This is the most significant parsha of the Torah for here was the revelation – the delivery of the Torah to the Hebrew people. Mountains argued that they be the place to receive this honor. Mount Tabor, Hermon, and Carmel stood up, but Hashem chose a small mountain – Sinai – as a symbol of humility. Moses was intimidated feeling unready to represent the people, but in the Midrash it speaks of his being picked up by a cloud taking him toward Sinai. But powerful angels objected to humans being given this deep truth. Who is humankind to deserve this? These angels are described as enormous. One like Hadraniel spewed forth fire scaring Moses to tears. But Hashem intervened and said that human would receive the gift of truth and Torah and how they deal with this, is there fortune. Our fortune.
