KI TEITZEI

KI TEITZEI

This parsha is filled with mitzvot. ( I have included below a second image from an earlier set of paintings that lists many of these instructions many on sexual behaviors. )  On my more recent response to this parsha, what stood out were these four instructions: when an enslaved, immigrant from another city comes to you, you should treat that person as a free person. (How about sending this message of compassion ordered by G-d to our present leaders !)  The wall here is a more contemporary version of the space from where these people are coming.  Here too in the parsha is the instruction about not taking the children – eggs – from the nest if the mother is there – that this is a sign of compassion.  (Separating families is against Jewish law!) And you should not muzzle your animal when using it so that it too can partake of the food you are raising – a sign of appreciation and kindness.  And you should leave what has fallen to the wayside for the poor and needy to have.  We are here to share and help others.
