How do you divert someone from spiritual focus? The body can be the potential distraction and sex even more so. In this parsha the story is told about the soldiers of Israel who have been commanded to destroy all the Midianites who have been set on undermining their Torah beliefs by seducing the Hebrews to idolatry and sexual perversions. The soldiers spare the women to the anger of Moses. The women then were paraded before the tzitzi headpiece of the Cohen Gadol and those who had participated in the deceptions had their faces turn green and were slain. Not an easy passage for us to deal with today. Not just the magic of the green, but the severe punishment as well.
