SHEMOT

SHEMOT

The theme of feet resonates from this parsha to its haftorah. Moses encounters the burning bush that won’t consume its wood.  He is told to remove his shoes in this holy place. He does.  And when told he is to lead the Hebrews out of slavery, Moses resists and asks what or who he should say he is speaking for, and Hashem responds with the blazing black letters and sounds “I SHALL BE WHAT I SHALL BE.” Moses protests that he won’t be believed, and Hashem tells him to throw his staff on the ground which he does, and it turns into a snake and Moses is startled, pulling his bare feet away.  He then is told to grab the snake by the tail and when he does it turns back into his staff. He is adjusting to miracles and his responsibility.
