Haftorah Vayashev – Amos 2:6–3:8

Haftorah Vayashev - Amos 2:6–3:8

As with many of the prophets, Amos critically cries out at our people who have fallen from the path of righteousness.  They have sold their spiritual evolution for silver and shoes, and their descent into hedonism has father and son in sexual lust with the same woman and they are warned that they will be crushed by the weight of a loaded cart. We also are reminded that arrogant giants and their offspring have been slaughtered down to their very roots; and though our corrupted leaders have silenced the prophet and forced wine on the Nazarite (a person who vows asceticism including not to indulge in drinking).  But all these cruel tormentors will be defeated, stripped naked of their  hypocrisies, their warriors defeated, their bow made useless, and they will run away naked on foot and on horse.  But those who honor the mitzvot will walk as a friend with Hashem.
