The haftorah continues the theme of passing on to the next generation where here an elder David is continually cold being covered in blankets, till a young woman is brought into him to embrace him to keep him warm. One of his sons, not his favorite, claims to be next in line, having runners proceed his chariot, but he is rejected by the priests, one of whom approaches Solomon’s mother Bathsheba requesting her to present herself to David warning him that Solomon will not succeed him unless he does something. She prostrates herself before him and then makes her case at his bedside. Courage. Stand up for the righteous children.
